Description:
It's hard to open a newspaper or listen to a news report
today without being inundated with information about
Internet business. The opportunities are limitless, but
the realities are harsh. And one of the most brutal
realities is that few companies, regardless of size or
reputation-have truly succeeded in e-commerce. One of
the rare exceptions to this is CISCO Systems. What has
set CISCO apart from the pack? It operates under a
unique set of rules for what the authors call the
"E-conomy" and these guiding strategies have
enabled CISCO to become the world leader it is. Net
Ready identifies these new rules, shows readers how to
combine them into unique strategies and provides a tool
kit for exploiting each strategy. |

e-Business:
Roadmap for Success

Description:
To the uninitiated,
e-business refers solely to the process of buying and
selling goods over the Net. In our increasingly
interactive age, however, it actually means much more.
Aiming at managers who recognize the need to plan and
implement just such a course of action, the authors
(with help from some pioneers currently practicing these
techniques) offer solid advice for designing
interrelated strategies focused on customer
relationships, resource planning, order management, and
supply chains, and on evaluating investments needed to
make them a reality. Describing efforts undertaken by
successful e-businesses such as Charles Schwab, which
adopted a system that provides sales reps with real-time
access to information on customers and appropriate new
products, the two chart the course that trailblazing
companies are following and savvy business people would
be wise to emulate.

Loyalty.com
By Frederick Newell
(Feb. 2000)
Buy
This Book Now! |
 |
Description:
A few years ago,
everybody with a product to sell got a dose of the same
religion. In marketing circles, it's called customer
relationship management, or CRM. Your grocery store
offers you special discounts if you bring one of those
cards to wave over the scanner. If you travel, you
probably have "loyalty cards" from airlines,
hotel chains, and car-rental companies. All these
discount and loyalty programs allow the companies to
build substantial databases about you--your preferences
and patterns--but they also depend on you to do the
work, to lug those plastic cards around, keep track of
your points and miles, and so on.
There are better ways to
build customer relationships, argues Newell. Today,
writes Newell, the Internet has made market research
cheaper and faster than ever. Software can be designed
to predict what a customer will want before she knows
she wants it, and the company can go straight to that
particular customer to suggest she buy that particular
product, rather than showering millions of potential
customers with hundreds of product solicitations. It's
not easy, and pitfalls abound, as Loyalty.com
shows (the issue of customer privacy alone will be the
subject of endless legislation in coming years). But the
company that masters customer relations will be rewarded
with both loyalty and profits. --Lou Schuler,
